When Migration Pays Back
Simple declarative logic that doesn’t need code. Legacy triggers that are hard to maintain. Business-user-friendly workflows for admin editing. Post-Summer ‘26, Flow debugging is nearly as good as Apex — fewer reasons to stay on Apex for simple logic.
When Not to Migrate
Performance-critical triggers on high-volume objects. Complex multi-step transactions. Heavy iteration or data transformation. Anything where governor limits are tight. Apex handles these better.
Safe Migration Path
Wrap existing Apex in handler pattern. Write Flow version in parallel. Run both for a week; compare outputs. Switch primary to Flow; keep Apex as fallback. Retire Apex after stable window.
Skill Implications
Flow skills are now necessary for all admins and developers. Apex-only developers see narrowing scope. Hybrid skill profiles dominate 2026 hiring. Invest in both unless you’re deeply specialized.
