What systems, what fields, what quality. A 20-year-old CRM has 20 years of bad data. Don’t migrate it all.
Mapping
Source field → target field. Transformations. Defaults for missing data. Document everything — the spreadsheet becomes the migration contract.
Cleanup
Duplicates, missing required fields, invalid data. Fix in the source if possible. Migrate clean or the new CRM inherits mess.
Testing
Migrate to a test environment first. Validate samples. UAT with real users on real records. Fix before prod migration.
Cutover
Low-traffic window. Freeze source. Final delta migration. Re-point integrations. Monitor 48h.
