Enrollment Triggers
Start with the narrowest trigger that works. ‘Contact created’ enrolls everyone. ‘Contact created AND lifecycle stage = Lead’ enrolls only what you care about.
Re-Enrollment
By default, a contact enrolls once. Re-enrollment allows re-entry when trigger conditions re-meet. Turn on only when you want it — accidental re-enrollment creates email storms.
Goals
Set a goal (e.g. ‘converted to MQL’). Workflow stops for contacts who meet the goal. Prevents over-nurturing and measures workflow effectiveness.
Delays and Branches
Delays for email cadence. If/then branches for personalization. Complex trees become unmaintainable — extract reusable sequences as separate workflows and call them via trigger.
Governance
Weekly review of workflow enrollment counts. A workflow enrolling 10x expected volume means the trigger is too broad. Decommission stale workflows quarterly.
